WHY CHOOSE US

Hi, I’m Sydney Chamorro, the founder of North Star Pathways and a proud mom to Aidan. Our journey began in Eugene, Oregon, where I faced numerous challenges in finding appropriate support for Aidan, who has multiple disabilities, including Down syndrome and autism. Traditional after-school programs turned us away due to Aidan's needs, so I decided to create a solution myself.

In 2013, leveraging the Affordable Care Act, I co-founded North Star Pathways to provide direct support to children like Aidan.

Our mission was simple: to ensure that children with disabilities have access to quality care and enriching activities that help them grow and feel included. Over the past decade, we've expanded our services, adapting to meet the diverse needs of families across Oregon and beyond.

Aidan, now 21, has become an integral part of our family business, helping with trainings and sharing his experiences. Together, we’ve created programs that are not only practical but also filled with joy and hope.

I invite you to join us on this journey and see the difference we can make in your child's life.

OUR MISSION AT NORTH STAR PATHWAYS

At North Star Pathways, our mission is to empower families and transform lives through compassionate, individualized support. We strive to create a world where every child feels understood, included, and capable of achieving their full potential.

See What Some Of

Our Amazing Clients Have To Say

"From isolated middle schooler to a joyful, engaged individual"

GARRET - EUGENE, OR

Garrett came to us with significant support needs, including challenges with hygiene and behavior that led to his rejection from traditional afterschool programs. People often kept their distance from him, assuming he couldn't achieve his goals.

Within a few weeks at North Star, Garrett transformed from an isolated middle schooler to a joyful, engaged individual. He became one of our staff's favorite clients, forming connections with friends and finding a safe, loving environment where he felt supported. His family noticed a dramatic improvement in his happiness and sense of belonging.

"From home under constant supervision to his dream job"

ALEX - EUGENE, OR

Alex, who needed constant supervision due to his spectrum-related barriers, had been sitting at home since COVID-19 started. Our vocational program identified his strengths and kept him occupied, helping him feel successful.

Within a year, Alex trusted us enough to engage fully in his work. We helped him find his dream volunteer position at Bags of Love, where he sorts clothing. This job aligns with his interests and he performs it successfully with the support of our job coaching program.

"Care significantly improved her & her mom's quality of life."

DULCE - SPRINGFIELD, OR

Dulce required high medical support, and her mom struggled to manage her care in their two-story apartment. Our bilingual staff helped Dulce's mom hire trusted care providers, ensuring Dulce received the hygiene care she needed.

This support allowed Dulce's mom to take time for self-care, replenishing her energy to better care for her family. The quality of care Dulce received significantly improved her and her mom's quality of life.

OUR STORY

North Star Pathways was founded in 2014 after Sydney's son Aidan was refused from after-school clubs due to his special needs.

With years of experience advocating for her son and researching what resources are available to help with day-to-day living, North Star Pathways was founded to support IDD children through home services and an inclusive after-school club.

The name of the company reflects our mission/purpose; to provide resources for growth and interaction with their community.

We also focus on fun recreational activities that help develop social skills and community involvement.

We recently launched Starz League, an online learning program & community so that kids across the nation and the world can be supported by our "5-Skill" System.

Providing support allows our kids to set goals and reach those goals, which enhances self-confidence while helping our community.

Our kids look ahead and above for their "North Star" while our staff/team members guide them on their "Pathway".

As parents, we want our children and clients to have the continued opportunities to explore their personal interests, experience their community, build relationships with peers and potential employers, learn job skills, live self-determined lives, and gain confidence with a sense of belonging in their community.
